How do I apply to PELE?
Application opens in October. The application will be emailed out to students. To be considered for the program, you must complete both the online application and an interview. Also, you will be able to access the application portal through this website.
Do I need prior leadership experience?
No! We do want students who are excited about improving their professional and leadership skills. This might be because of prior experiences or because of career interests.
Why are first years not accepted into the program?
First-year students are focused on adjusting to college and working on their core courses. The program is designed for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Do I have to attend all the sessions?
Yes, participants are expected to attend all of the sessions in the Leadership Labs and Leadership Spotlights. Optional programs will be noted as such.
Can I earn credit?
The PELE program is not for credit, so you don’t have to worry about fitting it into your course load.
What is the time commitment?
Sessions will be held in the evenings on Wednesdays of Winter semester. The program is 9 sessions long. The 2020 Winter program was as follows:
- January 15th
- January 22nd
- Jan 29th
- February 5th
- February 12th
- February 26th
- March 11th
- March 18th
- April 1st
In addition, the program will culminate in a weekend site visit to Michigan alums in leadership positions in cities like Chicago and Detroit. Each participant will have the opportunity to attend one of these visits. Site visits will occur throughout the Winter term. PELE is a significant opportunity to expand your leadership skills and attendance is necessary. Failure to attend without extenuating circumstances will jeopardize your attendance on a site visit.
